Here's a quick walkthrough of the process:

How to Cut Turf with GoodParty.org and Google My Maps

Before you start, you'll need a free Google account (Gmail) to use this tool. Your downloaded voter file from GoodParty.org already has everything you need, no editing required before you import it.

If you haven't already, make sure you've downloaded your voter file as a CSV.

Step #1: Go to Google My Maps

In your browser, go to mymaps.google.comSquare Arrow Out Up Right and click the red "+ Create a New Map" button.

Step #2: Import Your Voter File

Click "Import" in the left-side panel of Google My Maps.

Upload your CSV file.

Google will ask which columns contain the location. Select "Latitude" for latitude and "Longitude" for longitude. Using these two columns gives you the most accurate pin placement.

Next, the tool will ask what to use as a label for each pin. We recommend selecting "Address," or you can choose "First Name" and "Last Name" if you'd prefer to see voters' names on the map.

Click "Finish." Your voters will appear as pins on the map.

Step #3: Plan Your Canvassing Route

Once your pins are on the map, click a pin where you want to start. Then click the small directions arrow icon in the pop-up. This opens Google Maps with that pin's address loaded. Click "Add destination" to add your next stop, and keep adding stops as needed.

Google Maps allows up to 10 stops per route. If you have a long list, break it into smaller batches. Grouping by City or Zipcode (both included in your voter file) is a good way to do this.

Step #4: Hit the Streets

Tap the blue "Start" button for turn-by-turn navigation. Your map is saved in My Maps so you can return to it anytime.
